Geometric Shapes

Geometric Shapes      In Mathematics, Geometric shapes are the figures which demonstrate the shape of the objects we see in our everyday life. In geometry, shapes are the forms of objects which have boundary lines, angles and surfaces. There are different types of 2d shapes and 3d shapes. Shapes are also classified with respect to their regularity or uniformity. A regular shape is usually symmetrical such as square, circle, etc. Irregular shapes are asymmetrical. They are also called freeform shapes or organic shapes. For example, the shape of a tree is irregular or organic.      In plane geometry, the two-dimensional shapes are flat shapes and closed figures such as circle, square, rectangle, rhombus, etc.  In solid geometry, the three-dimensional shapes are cube, cuboid, cone, sphere and cylinder. We can observe all these shapes in our daily existence also. For example books (cuboid shape), glasses (cylindrical shape), traffic cones (conical shape) a...

What is a Trapezium?

Image
What is a Trapezium? The trapezium is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel opposite sides. The parallel sides of a trapezium are called bases and the non-parallel sides of a trapezium are called legs. It is also called a trapezoid. Sometimes the parallelogram is also called a trapezoid with two parallel sides.

What is Parallelogram?

What is Parallelogram?      A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. The opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal in length, and the opposite angles are equal in measure. Also, the interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary. Sum of all the interior angles equals 360 degrees.      A three-dimensional shape that has its faces in parallelogram shape, is called a parallelepiped. The area of parallelogram depends on the base (one of its parallel sides) and height (altitude drawn from top to bottom) of it. The perimeter of a parallelogram depends on the length of its four sides.

What is Circle?

What is Circle?      In Maths or Geometry, a circle is a special kind of ellipse in which the eccentricity is zero and the two foci are coincident. A circle is also termed as the locus of the points drawn at an equidistant from the centre. The distance from the centre of the circle to the outer line is its radius. Diameter is the line which divides the circle into two equal parts and is also equal to twice of the radius.      A circle is a basic 2D shape which is measured in terms of its radius. The circles divide the plane into two regions such as interior and exterior region. It is similar to the type of line segment. Imagine that the line segment is bent around till its ends join. Arrange the loop until it is precisely circular.      The circle is a two-dimensional figure, which has its area and perimeter. The perimeter of the circle is also called the circumference, which is the distance around the circle. The area of the circle is ...

What is Triangle?

Image
What is Triangle? As we discussed in the introduction, a triangle is a type of polygon, which has three sides, and the two sides are joined end to end is called the vertex of the triangle. An angle is formed between two sides. This is one of the important parts of geometry. Some major concepts, such as Pythagoras theorem and trigonometry, are dependent on triangle properties. A triangle has different types based on its angles and sides.  Shape of Triangle Triangle is a closed two-dimensional shape. It is a three-sided polygon. All sides are made of straight lines. The point where two straight lines join is the vertex. Hence, the triangle has three vertices. Each vertex forms an angle.

What is a Rectangle?

What is a Rectangle?       A rectangle is a 2D shape that has 4 sides, 4 corners, and 4 right angles. Opposite sides of a rectangle shape are the same length, with one pair being longer than the other pair. If all the sides of a rectangle were the same size, it would be known as a square. Each corner of a rectangle shape has a right angle of 90º. A rectangle also has two diagonals that are equal in length and intersect in the middle. A rectangle is an oblong. It has two pairs of parallel sides and four right angles. A rectangle can also be known as an equiangular quadrilateral. This is because a rectangle is a quadrilateral shape (4-sided shape) that has parallel sides, equal to one another, and all 4 corners have angles that are 90º. Because all the angles are 90º.

What is Square?

What is a Square? Square is a regular quadrilateral, which has all the four sides of equal length and all four angles are also equal. The angles of the square are at right-angle or equal to 90-degrees. Also, the diagonals of the square are equal and bisect each other at 90 degrees.
